Chinese-made Cecilia Train begins operation in Mexico City

A light rail train manufactured by a Chinese company was put into operation in Mexico City, Mexico, on Wednesday at local time.

The Cecilia train, manufactured by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co, can operate with two or four carriages, with a maximum capacity of 876 passengers.

The train has a top speed of 80 km per hour, and its minimum turning radius is only 25 meters, according to the company.

The train runs on the Xochililco to Tasquena light rail, which spans over 13 kilometers.

The company plans to manufacture nine trains for the line and will increase the line's carrying capacity by 40 percent.

The first section of Mexico City's Metro Line 1, which the company has overhauled and upgraded, resumed operation in late October.
